About Our Buckwheat Tea (in Japanese: Soba Cha):
Buckwheat tea has become an unstoppable hit across East Asia and is considered a superfood with exceptional nutritional values and health benefits. It is naturally caffeine-free, making it suitable for drinking at any time of the day, including evenings or before bed. Its taste is naturally rich and sweet, with a fuller, heavier body compared to most leaf teas. This Black Whole Buckwheat Tea is made from 100% whole roasted buckwheat seeds in their natural form, offering a complete spectrum of the grain’s full potential. The brew has a slightly unfiltered appearance, a textured mouthfeel, and a deep sweetness that leaves a satisfying and calming effect on digestion. This edition has been roasted at a higher temperature, resulting in a deeper, more complex taste compared to our previous Whole Buckwheat Tea.
It isn't the same plant variety of buckwheat intended for cooking, and different botanically (Fagopyrum tataricum). Our tartary buckwheat is cultivated in the De Liang Mountains of southern Sichuan, at altitudes exceeding 2,000 meters, where the climate remains a stable 14-17°C year-round. The seeds are harvested once a year during summer by members of the local Yi Zu (彝族 yizu) ethnic group and are specifically grown and processed for tea infusion from day one. Thanks to advanced technology and purely natural processing methods, the seeds reach a finish level suitable for both hot and cold brewing while preserving the plant’s rich flavor profile and health benefits.
Our sustainably grown (uncertified organic) buckwheat tea has been tested pesticide-free in Eurofins Lab, Taiwan, confirming it is completely free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Suitable for drinking year-round, at any time of the day, in both hot and cold infusions.
