Mahei Spring 2022 is a Sheng Pu’er tea 生普洱 (Raw Pu'erh) from a little town called Mahei (麻黑) in Mengla district of South Yunnan, China. Natural loose tea leaves from Spring 2022, picked from over 150 years old tea trees (gushu 古樹), grown at an average altitude of 1,200m, in an ancient, sustainable agricultural method, without the use of pesticides, nor fertilizers (Uncertified Organic). 100% natural hand-made tea, in which the leaves were picked, processed and packed manually.
An advanced tea, rich with Theine (Caffeine), with a medium body and a multi-dimensional flavor profile. The tea comes from a local farm in a small and unknown town of 120 families only, sits in one of the most glorious tea growing areas in Yunnan – Yiwu (易武).
An elegant tea with a thick texture, a subtle sweetness, and a salty-umami huigan (aftertaste) that stays on the lips after sipping. You can still feel in its aroma and finish the wok's fire in which the leaves were heated on their plucking day, which gives another layer of nutty and bitter notes in later infusions.
Every spring we receive dozens of samples of raw materials (mao cha 毛茶) from different growing areas across Yunnan, each area has its own unique terroir and potentiality. The raw materials are young, raw leaves of Sheng Pu’er, from which we choose the highest quality and most interesting batches of the season, according to our taste. Afterwards we decide which ones to compress into cakes and which to roll into balls. However, the leaves with the freshest and most interesting profile we tend to keep loose, like ancient green tea. These are usually the highest quality raw materials, which are not profitable to age, or simply because we lost patience and we want to enjoy them fresh! Mahei is the only Sheng we brought loose last year and we like it as young as it is. 🤓
Suitable for drinking in the first half of the day, all year long, especially during the hot seasons. The tea is packed in re-used packages for a more sustainable and responsible consumption.
