Our Story
For generations, tea has been connecting cultures, markets, and people. For us too, it has always been much more than just a drink—it was our meeting point in Hong Kong, a love story that began back in 2015. That’s where ho yum tea was born.
Behind the brand are Nadi Biran, a documentary photographer from Israel, and Pink Luk, a marketing professional from Hong Kong. For over a decade, we’ve been living between Hong Kong and Israel. The deep personal and professional relationships we’ve built over the years with tea masters, farming families, and growers across China and Taiwan—people who have become our mentors and guides—allow us to offer a rare and exclusive selection of natural, high-quality, and often one-of-a-kind teas not available in the commercial market.
We are a small, independent, and unique tea company that has been operating for almost a decade between the tea regions of East Asia and our local community in Israel. What began as a tiny tea room in Florentin neighborhood in 2018, quickly grew into a new local tea culture—one that had never before existed in Israel. Today, we are among the world’s leading companies in the research of Chinese and Taiwanese tea, exporting, importing, and curating boutique teas at the highest level, without 3rd parties, while connecting East and West—sharing and teaching Chinese tea culture to international audiences.
We work directly with our growers—visiting villages, walking the tea fields, studying firsthand about the land, growing conditions, production methods, and the medicinal roots of Camellia Sinensis—the Chinese medicinal herb that over time became the beverage we now simply call “tea.” Each of our teas is selected with care from among hundreds of samples that we taste and evaluate with both professionalism and passion. Every tea is lab-tested independently in Taiwan for pesticide residues and heavy metals, and arrives to you true to its origin—natural, clean of pesticides, and uncompromising.
Our online catalog changes seasonally, depending on the harvest, weather, and quality of the raw material, and every tea we offer is in limited edition. Alongside the online shop, we host seasonal events in Israel and around the world, run in-depth Gong Fu Cha hosting courses, original workshops, and guided tea tours throughout Asia. We also run the world’s first international Blind Tasting Club, bringing together tea lovers—beginners and experienced alike—from across the globe.
We’ve chosen to live a dual life between our home in Xiamen, China and the direct, face-to-face hospitality we offer in Israel and globally—where we get to meet our growing community, who’ve supported us for nearly a decade. This rare connection lies at the heart of everything we do—and we’re not giving it up. It allows us not only to source the best teas possible, but to deepen our understanding, share the stories behind our journeys and findings, and pass them on to others.
If you’ve made it this far, chances are you’re not one to settle for just any cup of tea. We invite you to join our journey and stay updated through our platforms on our seasonal activities and original content. Welcome.
